I’ve been working with Erik for a year now and couldn’t see myself ever working with anyone else. I have been competing in powerlifting since 2014, I have won Raw Nationals as a teen, had multiple American records in the bench press, and represented the United States at IPF Bench Worlds. It was hard at first to trust someone else with my programming because I had felt that I knew what was best for me, but I can honestly say I would not have made this amount of progress so fast if it wasn't for Erik. Erik has helped tremendously with not only programming but injury prevention and rehabilitation from aches and pains over this last year. Before working with Erik I had taken a year off from lifting, and this past year I was able to qualify for Raw Nationals in the open division as a junior lifter. If you're questioning whether or not you need a coach, I highly recommend giving Erik a chance. Having a coach can take the guesswork out of programming so you can focus solely on lifting. Thank you so much Erik for all the hard work you put into making me the best lifter I can be.

Matt Kopra - Submission Grappler
I first started working with Erik in late 2021 after a string of competitions and associated overtraining and weight cuts left me weak and injured. I compete in submission grappling, and strength on the mat is a key contributor to success, so in order to build myself back up to a level of strength and durability to take me to the next level in the sport, I reached out to Erik. In the time we’ve worked together, Erik has helped me rebuild confidence and strength in movement patterns I was essentially incapable of, and has led me to hit all time PR’s in almost every exercise he’s programmed for me, all while concurrently training submission grappling. Most importantly, Erik’s measured and conservative strength programming approach has allowed me to manage fatigue effectively off the mat and train the high volume of grappling necessary to improve. I look forward to the PR’s and competitive success we’ll continue to achieve.
To Utopia,
Matt

Where do I begin, I could go on and on about my time under Team Hogan. I started powerlifting in early summer of 2022 and it has been nothing but uphill since. I would have to say Erik is one of the most inspiring, hard working people I have met. I can take pride in saying he’s not only my coach, but a friend. I don’t think anyone understands the grit and dedication that he has to the game. There’s been many late training nights in the gym with just Erik and myself getting our sessionin and I’ve made many great memories and achievements in such a short amount of time. I’m nothing but thankful for the opportunity to work with Erik and what he has to offer. I originally joined powerlifting to gain strength mostly but what Erik has given me is confidence, strength, laughs, and doubled down on a great nickname, Twon. I would recommend any person who is dedicated to powerlifting to hire Erik as a coach. I take a lot of pride and have a lot of gratitude when it comes to being apart of Team Hogan .
Total increase since joining Team Hogan: 228 lbs.

Erik and I have been working with each other for approximately a year at this point, and needless to say, he has been the key factor to my early success in this sport. Erik is an extremely responsive individual, always taking the time to find the best solutions for possible problems at hand, whether that be mental, or physical. Without question, I can truly say Erik puts his athletes first, answering countless questions while he himself is training, working, etc, all while being an athlete himself! In the 9 months between my first local competition, and my most recent national competition, we have added 95 lbs to my competition total. I have only missed one lift in four meets, which goes to show his elite knowledge and skill in handling meets, and prepping his athletes successfully for meets. There is no question in my mind that without Erik, I would be nowhere where I am today as an athlete, and for that, I am forever grateful.

I got back into powerlifting in November of 2021 which was a little over a year and a half after I gave birth to my son Callen. 2021 was a stressful time in my life, I had some major postpartum anxiety and I had undergone two emergency stomach surgeries. I needed to focus on my mental and physical health, but I didn’t quite know where to begin. Prior to having my son, I was powerlifting but never with formal training or structure. I remembered scrolling Instagram one day where I stumbled upon all of these #teamhogan powerlifting posts and this led me to Erik’s personal Instagram.
I saw that he coached numerous lifters and was so passionate about the sport. In my lifetime, all the incredible coaches I worked with had two variables in common and that was passion and care for their athletes. So with this, I had this feeling that Erik was going to be a good fit.
At first, I was a little nervous whether Erik would take me on as an Athlete. I’m not exactly the picture-perfect powerlifter in the fact that:
1. I train 98% from my house with limited equipment.
2. I train ridiculously late at night. FYI- I work full time and I am a mom of a little boy who now goes to bed anytime between 8:30/9:30pm and I work out after I put him to bed usually finishing my workouts close to midnight.
3. I’m not a spring chicken, I’m fairly old (note: I refuse to state my age but let’s just say I’m not far from being in the masters division).
Despite all these variables, Erik welcomed me to the team with open arms and has truly made a positive impact on my life both mentally and physically. Erik is not only my coach but my cheerleader and friend. He cares about me as an athlete and person. I love that Erik is supportive that I am a mom and that sometimes I must focus on my son instead of a training session.
Seriously, everyone needs a coach or friend in their life like Erik.
Erik is motivating, caring, knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. He will inspire you and the programming he provides is top notch.

I’ve been coached by Erik since 2020 and I have had nothing but positive experiences under his service. Erik took me from someone who was always doubting myself to always having confidence under the bar that my lifts are to comp standards, and if not, Erik will fully break down the why and how to fix, instead of just saying to do better. Erik is very supportive even when I decide to tackle a 5k or half marathon amidst my powerlifting training. Erik has also coached me around some life events such as the birth of my second son, which was literally a month out from the Maine State Championships and has also helped me get back to training after 4 nights in the hospital due to a collapsed lung!

When I came to Erik just over a year ago, I thought that my best days of powerlifting were behind me. At the time I was dealing with a debilitating shoulder injury as well as some knee issues. While taking all that into account, Erik worked with me to create a rehabilitative program to not only get me back to being pain-free but I’m now the strongest I’ve ever been in my 10 year lifting career. Erik offers more than just the programming aspect. For me, his in-person, game day coaching is top notch and cannot be bested. I’ve never felt more invested in as an athlete. I’ve done three meet under Erik, with those three yielding 2 best lifter medals and my first PR total in 5 years.

I first met Erik in July 2022; it was my first meet back after a long hiatus and I found myself befriending a group of women in my flight. I had been self-coached for my time in this sport and was blown away to see how relaxed they all were because they had this man in yellow pants running around telling them when to start warming up, what to put on the bar for each warmup, how much time was left until they hit the platform, and what order to go in. I watched them each take their attempt, speak a few words with their coach, and then just walk back to line without having to pull out a calculator or speak to the judges. Their attempts were well-chosen and I believe everyone went 9/9. Every one of them told me at the end of the meet…You have to get Erik as a coach!
Still, I wasn’t at the point I thought I needed a coach so I continued to train myself, but I started to notice his online presence, giving his athletes kudos on great lifts and easily-actionable advice on less-than-great ones. It was a far cry from me watching back my own videos and trying to figure out what went right or wrong. I also noticed people doing different variations depending on their sticking points, versus my cookie-cutter program that didn’t care my squats looked different every time I dropped or that my bench was stalling.
I did another meet in December and again saw his athletes have a calm, successful day because all they had to do was eat and lift.
Afterwards I reached out to some of his athletes to ask what it was like working with him and I heard the same things: he is very responsive; he programs individually for the person’s particular goals, strengths, and weaknesses; he gives great pointers without making you feel stupid; he never makes a lifter feel less important because they lift less than someone else. I was still a bit apprehensive because I have a toddler so I don’t have two hours to spend in the gym every day and sometimes I have to skip or move a training session due to lack of sleep/illness/my kid just won’t go to bed, but Carlee was in the same position and she assured me Erik was very understanding and from then I was sold.
From the get-go I knew I made the right decision; he programmed me four days so I could swing workouts if I needed to, and they were all around an hour so I could knock them out between my kid’s bedtime and mine. He also set them up in order of importance so I could drop an accessory or two if I was even more pressed for time. He laid out everything I needed to adjust from the standard percentage-based program I’d been running for years to an RPE based one, included embedded links to movements I likely wouldn’t have heard of, and answered any questions I had along the way.
I cannot sing enough praise about how much mental stress he has taken off my plate in both training. For example, deadlifts went terribly one session, but he sent me a video of a previous session where I did well and pointed out the differences, and the next session went well again. My back was hurting on squats so he inquired about my warmup routine (apparently “drink preworkout” is not a warmup routine) and gave me a handful of mobility exercises to do beforehand which eliminated my back pain. He’s always available for my hundreds of questions ranging from “why does this feel harder today than it should” to “should I change weight classes” to “hey what do you think about these knee sleeves”. And he always checks in on my short term goals and long term goals to make sure we are focusing on the right things.
My two meets under him were the smoothest I’ve ever experienced because all I had to do was show up, eat, and lift; he sent me meet attempts (both good and meh paths) and warmup attempts and does absolutely everything else. No matter how many other athletes he has in a meet I’ve never felt forgotten, and he seemed just as excited for my first 300lb deadlift as he was for another athlete qualifying for nationals.
Added bonus: while not the goal of the program, I get an insane amount of comments from everyone now about how good I look. Mass moves mass and also looks amazing in a sundress apparently.
While I did well under self-coaching, I am kicking myself for not joining the roster sooner. I can’t thank Erik enough for how much I’ve progressed since we started working together and I cannot wait to see what we can accomplish in the future.

When I did my first powerlifting meet about a year ago, I was basically handling myself with the help of a friend, and I was so nervous. I was very quickly welcomed and reassured by current members of Team Hogan, and I noticed pretty much immediately that the team was so supportive of each other, and Erik cares deeply about his athletes. That’s what drew me in. Since starting with Erik, I have grown exponentially in the sport and my meet day execution, DOTS score, and total have seen massive improvement. Erik has been extremely supportive, understanding, and detail oriented, and I absolutely would not be where I am right now without him. Joining Team Hogan was the best decision I have made for my training and powerlifting journey thus far, and I absolutely would recommend Erik’s services to anyone interested in the sport at any experience level.
