“I’ve been coached by Gavin since March 2024, and it has been nothing but constant improvement. Gavin introduced me to powerlifting late 2023 and I was extremely interested in powerlifting ever since I started lifting in late August 2021. I haven’t always been able to commit to a strict powerlifting program because of athletics in high school, so I wasn’t ready to be committed to anything until I was finished with sports in high school. During me and Gavin's time together, we have tweaked a couple things. I used to be a conventional puller before Gavin got me on to pulling sumo, which has benefited me like I never thought it would. We have dialed in our squatting form, and figured out specific cues to improve bracing and found our mid foot. Bench press has been nothing but momentum while working with Gavin. I never thought my total could skyrocket like it has in these past 8 months. Working with Gavin is relieving too. We are always in contact, which is a very important factor in coaching. I will usually hear back from him within a few hours if not minutes when he isn’t busy. He is always willing to keep me accountable, and make the right calls on the load for the day. Not only that, he is extremely supportive and speaks his mind no matter the situation. Me and Gavin work very well together, even when I have some things I need to work on. Being his first athlete has been an honor, and it’s amazing how far we’ve come as an athlete and a coach working together. He is extremely intelligent when it comes to pacing, what specific movements he puts, and how heavy we will go depending on fatigue, external factors, and injuries. Gavin is an extremely positive coach, and he will tell you what you need to hear. Me and Gavin will be working together for as long as I will be powerlifting, and we will continue to improve together.
