“I got back into powerlifting in November of 2021 which was a little over a year and a half after I gave birth to my son Callen. 2021 was a stressful time in my life, I had some major postpartum anxiety and I had undergone two emergency stomach surgeries. I needed to focus on my mental and physical health, but I didn’t quite know where to begin. Prior to having my son, I was powerlifting but never with formal training or structure. I remembered scrolling Instagram one day where I stumbled upon all of these #teamhogan powerlifting posts and this led me to Erik’s personal Instagram.
I saw that he coached numerous lifters and was so passionate about the sport. In my lifetime, all the incredible coaches I worked with had two variables in common and that was passion and care for their athletes. So with this, I had this feeling that Erik was going to be a good fit.
At first, I was a little nervous whether Erik would take me on as an Athlete. I’m not exactly the picture-perfect powerlifter in the fact that:
1. I train 98% from my house with limited equipment.
2. I train ridiculously late at night. FYI- I work full time and I am a mom of a little boy who now goes to bed anytime between 8:30/9:30pm and I work out after I put him to bed usually finishing my workouts close to midnight.
3. I’m not a spring chicken, I’m fairly old (note: I refuse to state my age but let’s just say I’m not far from being in the masters division).
Despite all these variables, Erik welcomed me to the team with open arms and has truly made a positive impact on my life both mentally and physically. Erik is not only my coach but my cheerleader and friend. He cares about me as an athlete and person. I love that Erik is supportive that I am a mom and that sometimes I must focus on my son instead of a training session.
Seriously, everyone needs a coach or friend in their life like Erik.
Erik is motivating, caring, knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. He will inspire you and the programming he provides is top notch.
